AITAPE AREA, NORTH EAST NEW GUINEA. C. 1944-04. NAKED JAPANESE PRISONERS OF WAR (POWS) CROUCH

AITAPE AREA, NORTH EAST NEW GUINEA. C. 1944-04. NAKED JAPANESE PRISONERS OF WAR (POWS) CROUCH Aitape area, north east new guinea. c. 1944-04. naked japanese prisoners of war (pows) crouch together on the ground while awaiting transport after being captured by us invasion forces following the successful allied landing. The japanese were probably stripped because of their habit of concealing weapons and grenades. Working on Japanese POWs today. This is not an attack on America, it is just to point out how hard it was to get the Americans to take prisoners after the Japanese faked their surrender many times and killed American troops. Some comments I am adding: Sometimes the Japanese forced the civilians to act against the Americans, or possibly, some acted on their own volition out of some strange loyalty to an Emperor who always treated them as second-class citizens. One example is found in the diary of an American Army engineer. He says that on 26 July 1945, two women emerged from a Ja...

Squadron Sergeant Major William John Parkes was one the first men of the Irish Guards to die in the Operation Market Garden advance into the Netherlands in September 1944.

Squadron Sergeant Major William John Parkes was one the first men of the Irish Guards to die in the Operation Market Garden advance into the Netherlands in September 1944. Squadron Sergeant Major William John Parkes (2717391) served in No. 3 Squadron, 2nd Battalion Irish Guards during the Second World War. Born in 1911, he was the son of Joseph Parkes and Esther W. Parkes of Belfast. He died on 17th September 1944 aged 33 years old during 2nd Battalion’ push on to Valkenswaard, Netherlands as part of Operation Market Garden. His M4A4 Sherman Mark V came under fire on the main road, which became known as “Hell’s Highway”. Parkes died trying to escape the turret of his stricken tank. Sergeant Carpenter of No. 5 Army Film and Photographic Unit photographed the Squadron Sergeant Major’s body slumped in the turret. Later in the day, William’s brother passed down the same road with 3rd Battalion Irish Guards past his brother’s body. William John Parkes’ grave is in Section II, Row B,...

Peter Becker’s Nazi education began when he was just six years old at a German boarding school.

Peter Becker’s Nazi education began when he was just six years old at a German boarding school.  “I had sort of imbibed it from morning till night. I had drunken it, I had eaten it, it was part of my life,” Peter later recalled.  “By the time the war ended in 1945, when I was 15, I had become a Nazi without ever really being aware that I was one.” Extremist groups today prey upon vulnerable young people. They seek to shape minds and win followers by introducing antisemitic stereotypes, racism, and conspiracy theories—often inspired by Nazi ideology.   They also teach young people to believe they are part of something important, something bigger than themselves. Peter recalled feeling that way. “Hitler came along to lift Germany out of this muck and mire, and bring it back to greatness, and we felt that we were part of that, and we were very proud of that.” It wasn’t until years after World War II that Peter understood that he had become radicalized. He finally be...

Despicable Mass Rape in Europe by Allied soldiers after war 1945

Despicable Mass Rape in Europe by Allied soldiers after war 1945 The greatest crimes against women and Europeans in history, was the mass rape of the European women after the Liberal-Communist victory in 1945. It would be easy for you to toss this newsletter aside and pickup more pleasant or amusing reading Mass R*ape in Europe by Allied soldiers after World War 2 The ra*pists were mainly Soviet and US soldiers. They were permitted and encouraged by official “Allied” policies which incited hatred against those of European nationalities which were  in fight against Communism. In Vienna,Austria alone, they ra*ped 100,000 women, not once but many times, including girls not yet in their teens, and aged women. By official policy, the Allies created conditions in which the only German mothers who could keep their young children alive were those who themselves or whose sisters became mistresses of the occupying troops. According to testimony given in the United States Senate on July...

At the concentration camp 1943

WARNING GRAPHIC Sometime in 1943, a 35-year-old architect sat at a drafting desk on the third floor of the headquarters building in the infamous Janowska concentration camp in Lviv in what is now Ukraine.  Over 80,000 Jews were murdered at this camp and it served as the main deportation center for 160,000 Jews of Lviv (a number which exceeded the entire Jewish population of the Netherlands). In between doodling and planning the construction of mundane camp structures, this man, Zeev Porath, gazed out over a panorama of horror. Every day Porath was an unwilling audience to performances of unspeakable cruelty. From his elevated vantage point, he could witness these everyday terrors. As a “privileged prisoner,” Porath could move relatively freely throughout the camp, past the everyday torture that characterized Janowska. He had no power to intervene. However, he did the one thing he was trained for: he could draw. His own witnessing drove him also to draw the non-architectural scenes ...

Hanging of William Johnson

Hanging of William Johnson PETERSBURG (Va.) THEN & NOW — A photo of the hanging of William Johnson, a USCT soldier, on June 20, 1864, paired with an approximate “Now” photo of the site. Per Harper’s Weekly of July 9, 1864: “Private Johnson deserted and while away from camp attempted to 'commit and outrage on a white woman at Cold Harbor.' Considerable importance was given to this affair, in order that an example might be made more effective. Johnson confessed his guilt and was hung at Jordan's Farm, Petersburg, Virginia on June 20, 1864.” “The hanging took place within the outer breastworks about Petersburg and on an elevation in plain view of Confederate troops. A white flag covered the ceremony.”

Victims of Death(Dead bodies as a means of revenge)

Victims of Death Eisenhower had posters put up all over Germany containing grisly scenes of work camp conditions with captions saying, “You Are Guilty Of THIS!” and “German Culture 1945!” The concept of German culture itself as “enemy” was a carry-over from World War One anti-German propaganda. The women of defeated Germany, while already suffering enormously physically and mentally, were now subjected to an intense psychological propaganda campaign and forced to view traumatic staged exhibits of German “war crimes” as part of the “re-education” policy put in place by the Allies. Women, although not enemy soldiers, were subjected to degradation, humiliation and abuse by both Soviet and Allied occupiers, especially in German areas slated to be turned over to the communists. During “re-education,” the foreign dead found in work camps at the end of the war were used as “learning tools” and German civilians (usually over 10 years old) were not only forced to view the dead in camps but in...

The Human Problem: The High Cost of War Paid by Women

“Kill! Kill! In the German race there is nothing but evil. Stamp out the fascist beast once and for all in its lair! Use force and break the racial pride of these German women. Take them as your lawful booty. Kill! As you storm forward. Kill! You gallant soldiers of the Red army.” Ilya Ehrenburg Ilya Ehrenburg’s vicious propaganda machine had widely disseminated false reports of Nazi rape in Russia to ensure that the Red Army stormed into Germany with no pity. It worked. They committed the largest mass rape in history, with the girls and women of East Prussia bearing the first brunt of their brutality. Here, most females were gang raped and then murdered. “Tot den Deutschen Okkupaten!” (Death to the German Occupants) the victorious Soviet soldier cried, and regardless of age, German women and girls were taken without mercy. Thousands of women shuddered as the words “Frau komm!” grunted from the invading army, for it not only meant they were about to be violated, it might also mean tor...

The Homecoming of veteran

The Homecoming of veteran This photo of a World War II veteran reunited with his son reminded me of Bryan Pflaum, who I interviewed for my book ‘The Nameless Names.’  Bryan had provided a DNA sample in 2010 that helped to identify his uncle, Ray Pflaum, who was one of the Fromelles missing. I asked Bryan whether he ever reflected on the Great War. After pondering for a moment, Bryan said that the Great War was a ‘distant thing’ for him.  Rather, he said, World War II often occupied his thoughts.  As a child during the war, he remembered having haunting nightmares of the Japanese coming and tying his parents to the peach tree outside the house’.  But his most vivid and reoccurring memory was of an elderly stranger walking up the family driveway in 1945. It turned out to be his father Howard returning from the Pacific campaign. An unexpected homecoming. Poland Women naked, before their execution

Poland Women naked, before their execution Among the millions of photographs that are related to Nazi death camps, only four depict the actual process of mass killing perpetrated at the gas chambers in Auschwitz-Birkenau. They show a completely different perspective, which makes them unique when dealing with visual material of the Holocaust and the Holocaust as a topic itself. They were taken inside the epicenter of the horror, from which no other visual material exists. They were taken clandestinely at the height of the Final Solution in 1944 by one of the so-called  Sonderkommando  – Jewish prisoners forced to help carry out the atrocities by removing the Nazis' victims from the gas chambers and destroying the corpses through fire or mass burial. One of the photographs shows a group of naked women; the others show the cremation of corpses. Poland Women naked, before their execution If we agree that photography not only reflects reality, but also interprets it, than we n...
