'Blood oozed through the soil at grave sites. You could see the pits move, some of them were still alive': The secrets of Ukraine's shameful 'Holocaust of Bullets' killing centre where 1.6million Jews were executed.

You could see the pits move, some of them were still alive': The secrets of Ukraine's shameful 'Holocaust of Bullets' killing centre where 1.6million Jews were executed . Seventy years on from the end of the Second World War the full, shocking scale of the Nazi-inspired Holocaust in Ukraine is finally being revealed - thanks to pioneering work by a French Catholic priest to research the truth of the industrial-scale killing. Around 2,000 mass graves of Jewish victims have been located where men, women and children were shot and buried by the Germans and their collaborators. But there maybe up to 6,000 more sites to uncover, with victims of this 'Holocaust of bullets' - so called because unlike in Poland and Germany where gas chambers were used as the means of slaughter - here most were summarily shot and buried ne...

Nigerian wigmaker Helen Williams has created the world’s longest handmade wig

Nigerian wigmaker Helen Williams has created the world’s longest handmade wig, measuring 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in). Helen spent 11 days and over two million naira (£2,031; $2,493) making the wig. After constructing the underlay with wig-cap netting and black fabric attached to a bicycle helmet, she completed the hairpiece using 1,000 bundles of hair, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips. “Finding the materials to make the longest wig was not an easy task,” Helen said. “My experience as a wigmaker helped a lot.” Helen has been working as a professional wigmaker for eight years, producing anywhere from 50 to 300 wigs per week. “I have trained hundreds of students and have made thousands of wigs,” she revealed. Despite having such extensive experience, creating the record-breaking wig was not a simple feat for Helen. “At some point, I felt exhausted,” she shared. “However, friends and family encouraged me. I did not want to let them down, so I maintained ...

A life-lesson drawn from Victor Frankl’s ‘Death in Teheran’ parable.

A life-lesson drawn from Victor Frankl’s ‘Death in Teheran’ parable. Victor Frankl’s ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ is arguably the most profound book of the twentieth century.  It documents Frankl’s struggle for survival in Nazi concentration camps.  In the book, Frankl tells this story:  ‘A rich and mighty Persian once walked in his garden with one of his servants. The servant cried that he had just encountered Death, who had threatened him. He begged his master to give him his fastest horse so that he could make haste and flee to Teheran, which he could reach that same evening. The master consented and the servant galloped off on the horse. On returning to his house the master himself met Death, and questioned him, “Why did you terrify and threaten my servant?” “I did not threaten him; I only showed surprise in still finding him here when I planned to meet him tonight in Teheran,” said Death. As compelling as Frankl’s story is, I’ve always struggled to make sense of it....

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT LEECH

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT LEECH Each leech is structured with 34 segments. The first five contain the brain, eyes, and one sucker; the middle 21 have nerves and reproductive organs; and the last seven have a posterior brain and tail sucker... Leeches have 32 brains! With their nervous system being so similar to ours, they are often used in the study of invertebrate nervous systems, brain and cardiovascular disorders.Their complex nervous system can detect touch and vibrations from nearby objects. Leeches that consume blood use their suckers to attach to mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. Their teeth are so sharp, they’re even able to pierce the thick skin of hippos. Leeches can ingest amounts of blood five times bigger than their own weight allowing them to go up to a year between meals! Mind-boggling...😵‍💫

Shocking! Hermaphrodite

Hermaphrodite A  hermaphrodite  is a sexually reproducing organism that produces both male and female gametes. Animal species in which individuals are of different sexes, either male or female but not both, are gonochoric, which is the opposite of hermaphroditic. The individuals of many taxonomic groups of animals, primarily invertebrates, are hermaphrodites, capable of producing viable gametes of both sexes. In the great majority of tunicates, mollusks, and earthworms, hermaphroditism is a normal condition, enabling a form of sexual reproduction in which either partner can act as the female or male. Hermaphroditism is also found in some fish species, but is rare or absent in other vertebrate groups. Most hermaphroditic species exhibit some degree of self-fertilization. The distribution of self-fertilization rates among animals is similar to that of plants, suggesting that similar pressures are operating to direct the evolutio...

Animals are intelligent in the ways that they need to be

Animals are intelligent in the ways that they need to be They may not be able to do math or write essays, but they are wired to navigate their own life’s problems. For example, some birds create a home with a fake room to confuse a predator: The snake will see the room and realize his smell must have led him to the wrong place. That simple design was brought about through the brilliance of evolution. Animals are incredible in ways that an IQ test won’t capture. The human brain has a tremendous caloric demand. It needs tons of oxygen and burns ~20% of your daily calories (despite being only ~2–3% of your body weight). It wouldn’t be practical for other species. Generally—a species is intelligent as it needs to be, but no moreso. We hope that you have enjoyed reading our blog on the world history and facts. The very reason why she had lost herself in a form of procrastination seldom heard of, was sheer embarrassment.

The very reason why she had lost herself in a form of procrastination seldom heard of, was sheer embarrassment. This patient had a gynecological problem she had been hiding for years on end. She decided to tell her urologist though, and not her OB/GYN. The very reason why she had lost herself in a form of procrastination seldom heard of, was sheer embarrassment. Over the years, she had found dozens of reasons to postpone that one necessary doctor’s visit (and the subsequent operation) — going from “my husband is sick” to “I did not have the time,” but here she finally was. And when her urologist saw the problem after the old woman had undressed, she hardly could believe her eyes. A uterus, partially necrotized and entirely protruding from the woman’s vagina. The most unbelievable thing was not the prolapse itself — these things happen all the time — but the fact that it had been hanging there for years. It must have been painful in the beginning (whatever that even...

This image touches the true essence of stage 4 cancer.

This image touches the true essence of stage 4 cancer. But it is not what you think, unfortunately. They are not lovers, hanging on to each other before one of them vanishes for ever. They are not a mother and child sticking together till death does them part. It is not someone who is near the end of the cancer battle, clinging desperately to life in stage 4. Since I saw my ex-wife for the very last time, only weeks before she was obliterated by stage 4 cancer in a mist of bone and liver metastasis, leaving her barely recognizable — even for a person who once knew her so well — I see this painting representing an entirely different aspect of the stage 4 horror. Because I saw her empty eyes. Her lack of posture because all life was gone. The total absence of color around her, although she was simply in between us. The broken will to live. This painting depicts something else. An embrace. And it is the cancer which is holding on, deeper and deeper. Sucking all the life out of its h...

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month I would like to share my friend Melissa's story. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Please read Melissa's touching words below about her journey.  In Oct of 2011, I heard the life altering words "we got your results and it's the cancer".  My world shattered....cancer?  Me? How...I am only 37!  I am healthy.  Everything came to a standstill and I felt the fear of the word.  It was Stage 1 Breast Cancer - DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma In Situ in my right breast. It was the best kind to get as it was Non-Invasive, but nevertheless, it was cancer.  I chose to have a double mastectomy to reduce my chances of reoccurrence down to roughly 8%.  The surgery was tough but the tissue stretching done after a mastectomy was the hardest.  There were many lonely tearful night, but I made it through 4 surgical procedures and continued with my life.  Fast forward 2 year...

Advice from An Old Farmer

Advice from An Old Farmer Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you! Some people are much smarter and have made better choices, then other people.  But, every path has a few puddles. People always find out who their enemies are.  Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.  Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled. The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight. It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel word. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway. Don’t judge folks by their relatives. Live a good, ...
