When Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was 18, she was involved in a near fatal accident that changed the trajectory of her life forever. While in intensive care, Kahlo developed a new perspective on life and how she processed pain, this came through in her self portraits. Each and everyday Kahlo would perfect her craft by painting herself byway of the mirror she had installed above her bed. Some of her famous works included "The Bus" (1929), "Henry Ford Hospital" (1932) and "The Two Fridas" (1939). As an openly bisexual woman, Kahlo would challenge the heteronormative art scene by depicting taboo imagery through the lens of a women's life experience. Kahlo also caught the attention of critics through her interpretation of Mexican indigenous culture in art. 📷: Getty Images #FridaKahlo #ArtHistory #Pride
