Today, we pause to remember Major Gilbert Eric Graham Cockburn D.S.O. M.C. who was killed in action during the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940. Gilbert was born in Barrackpore, Bengal on 6 April 1894, the son of Major William Cockburn, Royal Artillery.  In the early 1900s, Gilbert was living in Tenby, Pembrokeshire and in 1912, he entered the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.   On 3 February 1913, he was commissioned into the Princess Victoria’s (Royal Irish Fusiliers) and was promoted to lieutenant in August 1914.  Having been attached to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers he arrived in France on 16 October 1914.  He fought in the trenches throughout the war, having later been transferred to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and promoted to temporary major. Gilbert was awarded the Military Cross on 17 January 1917, and a few months later, on 17 September, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for leadership and gallantry in the field.  His citation r...

Whenever I hear white Americans say “my family had nothing to do with slavery so why should I apologize” I think of Willy Brandt.

Whenever I hear white Americans say “my family had nothing to do with slavery so why should I apologize” I think of Willy Brandt.  Willy Brandt was Germany’s Chancellor from 1969 to 1974. In 1970, he made an historic visit to Poland. Brandt came to the site of the Warsaw Ghetto—an open-air walled prison where the Nazis forced Jews to live before “liquidating” it in 1943. Brandt came to acknowledge Germany’s culpability in the murder of 3 million Polish Jews—90% of the country’s Jewish population and nearly half of the 6 million Jews killed and burned to ash by the Nazis. Brandt was there to lay a wreath. But as he approached the memorial, he fell to his knees in anguish. It was an act of deep humility and courage. At the time, there were older Germans who hated it. Who saw it as a sign of weakness. Brandt’s gesture could not bring back 6 million murdered Jews or the millions of European civilians also murdered. But it was the beginning of Germany’s true reckoning with the past....

Woman Tortures Boy With Bites & Razor Blades in Lagos (Pic) - A 12-year-old boy, Michael Agu, has been brought to the Lagos State Government by a neighbour in the Victoria Island area of the state after five years of being allegedly tortured by her aunt, identified only as Mama Sarah. Agu told PUNCH Metro that he did not want to go back to the woman because of the torture. PUNCH Metro learnt that the boy, who was brought from the Imuneze area of Anambra State to stay with the woman around 2010, was registered in a secondary school just last year. He was said not to be punctual in school due to alleged abuse. Our correspondent gathered that the aunt had been reported at the Bar Beach Police Division sometime last year and had been arrested, but she was freed when she signed an undertaking not to touch the boy again. It was learnt that Mama Sarah, however, continued abusing Agu. According to the neighbour who took Agu to the state Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Alau...

Neville George Clevely Heath - a sexual sadist.

Neville George Clevely Heath - a sexual sadist. Twenty nine year old Neville George Clevely Heath murdered two women, his girlfriend Margery Aimee Gardner, aged 31, and 21 year old Doreen Marshall, both in the summer of 1946. Heath had previous convictions and had been court-martialled three times while serving in the forces during the war.  He had a reputation for telling tall stories of his wartime heroism and his connections with powerful people as he drank in bars in and around Wimbledon. Margery Gardner enjoyed masochistic sex and Heath was a sadist so there was an obvious bond. They acted out their fantasies at the Pembridge Court Hotel in London's Notting Hill Gate where Heath tied Margery up and whipped her with a diamond weave pattern leather whip. He had also bitten her breasts and inserted an object into her vagina causing heavy bleeding, all before suffocating her, probably to stifle her screams on the evening of Friday, the 21st of June. Her body was discovered in Room...

Muslims have massacred over 590 million non-Muslims since 622AD

Muslims have massacred over 590 million non-Muslims since 622AD Islam: The Religion of Genocide Perspective: Think the Spanish inquisition was bad? More people are killed by Islamists each year than in all 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition* combined. The Spanish inquisition (Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición) from 1478 to 1834 was established due to muslim invasions. It was the war and battle to try and end Islamic infiltration, Arab fascism and conquest. It’s quite interesting how similar to muslims their methodology was. Was it habit by long association under muslim rule or a strategy? Note: The Spanish Inquisition was an answer to the multi-religious nature of Spanish society following the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from the Muslim Moors. Muslim decapitation of 1.5-2 million Christians in Armenia. This genocide was marketed by the Grand Mufti al-Hussaini to Hitler and the Nazi’s and adapted for the Jews – which ended up creating the holocaust. Prior to being as...

In 1942, a unit of the Polish II Corps discovered an orphaned brown bear in Hamadan, Iran, shortly after hunters had tragically taken his mother's life. With compassion and camaraderie, they welcomed the bear into their ranks and named him Wojtek, signifying "happy soldier." He quickly became an integral member of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company. This wasn't a mere symbolic gesture. The soldiers formally enlisted Wojtek by assigning him a rank, providing him with a service number, and even issuing him a pay book. He was given a place among the troops, sharing bunks with fellow soldiers. In no time, he became a true comrade, enjoying beer and cigarettes much like any other member of his unit. When the call of duty beckoned, Wojtek didn't shy away. He courageously stood by his comrades during battles, even assisting in the arduous task of carrying 100-pound crates of ammunition at the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy in 1943. His unwavering dedication and strength...
