At the onset of WW1, young Adolf enlisted as an infantryman for the Bavarian Army with Germany. In 1914, he was one of the few survivors of a battle that nearly wiped out his regiment. In 1916, he was wounded by an artillery explosion. In 1918, he was awarded the "Iron Cross 1st Class" for bravery, a rare honor for a low-ranking soldier.
In 15 years he would be elected as Chancellor of Germany. He ruled as a fascist dictator, he re-armed the German military, he prepared to plunge the world into its bloodiest war yet and masterminded the deadliest genocide in history.
After his death, Germany gave Hitler no honors, no memorials, no hero's burials. His ashes, dumped in an unknown stream, are now impossible to trace. Hitler's surviving relatives made a pact to never have children, ensuring the end of his bloodline. Merely glorifying Hitler and denying his crimes are punishable by current German law.
Germany didn't just forget and move on; they made sure it never happened again.
Hitler was not a hero.
