Your arms, mind, and heart are full. The pace starts out slow when you feel like time has stood still and you’re completely consumed by the stillness that it allows. Then life creeps back in and you emerge weeks later almost as if the sacred time was borrowed. It’s all a blur. Without a doubt the ultimate sacrifice.
We should never downplay the enormity of it emotionally, physically, and mentally. Still bleeding, exhausted, overwhelmed, and getting to know the new little person who is relying on you for everything. It’s the fast pace that quickly becomes the new normal and makes you feel like you’re always on borrowed time the moment your hands are free.
Rushing to hydrate, rushing to use the toilet, rushing to shower then picking up the baby half wet with no time for conditioner, rushing to say good night to the other children you have regrettably shooed away all day. Rushing to eat, half choking but grateful to even have food before you are summoned once again by your tiny ruler.
Rushing to finish feeding so you can have a break. Rushing for the pain to stop. Rushing to get the baby to sleep so you can sleep. Rushing to put everyone else first. Despite all of the rushing, all of the overwhelming feelings, and all of the wishing the hard days away it’s ironically also a time you wished would stand still. That these fleeting moments would last forever.
The moments you want to bottle up and replay every day. Holding onto every second of the innocence and stillness. Being able to just soak up the time. It’s a constant battle between the two. It’s hard, it’s messy and it’s beautiful.
A fine line that doesn’t feel like one at the time but looking back when everything heals will be the most worth it thing you ever did. Your Mindful Mama
