This patient had a gynecological problem she had been hiding for years on end. She decided to tell her urologist though, and not her OB/GYN.
The very reason why she had lost herself in a form of procrastination seldom heard of, was sheer embarrassment. Over the years, she had found dozens of reasons to postpone that one necessary doctor’s visit (and the subsequent operation) — going from “my husband is sick” to “I did not have the time,” but here she finally was.
And when her urologist saw the problem after the old woman had undressed, she hardly could believe her eyes. A uterus, partially necrotized and entirely protruding from the woman’s vagina. The most unbelievable thing was not the prolapse itself — these things happen all the time — but the fact that it had been hanging there for years.
It must have been painful in the beginning (whatever that even means), but it had become numb, and dead over the years. The smell also wasn’t particularly nice — although it surely had been worse in earlier stages — and the sight was just awful.
For years, she had been sleeping, sitting, peeing, hurting and shitting with this dying piece of flesh between her legs, and still she had looked for excuses every which way to avoid the very thought of going to the doctor’s and having the thing removed.
But that day had finally come.
