On This Day, September 29, 1941, the massacre at Babi Yar began.
Over the course of two days, 33,771 Jews were murdered in the Babi Yar ravine, located on the outskirts of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine (USSR). A week after the Germans captured Kiev, they decided to massacre the city’s Jews.
The Jews were ordered to assemble in the morning for resettlement. But as they were marched to the ravine, they were forced to surrender any valuables, take off their clothes, and move towards the edge of the ravine in groups of ten.
As they reached the edge, they were shot by Einsatzgruppe C soldiers with the assistance of local collaborators. After two days of shooting, the bodies were covered with a thin layer of dirt. Among the victims was Anyuta Lifshitz (pictured). She was just 13 years old.

Russian poet Yevguni Yevatushenko: Don't miss reading this shocking poem by #BabiYar
No memorial in babi yar;
Just sour side. And I'm scared.
I feel like a Jew in the desert today
What of Egypt that survived. They cross me
And my hands keep the stigma.
I think dreyfus, waste,
For whom they judge, spit, imprison;
But standing opposes slander
and Palestine cry. with the tip
Look at your umbrellas on my face
My defenseless women are coming
Brussels lace with fabric.
Or I'm also a kid in Bielostok.
Soon the pogromo bursts.
Dropped blood covers the ground.
who smell vodka and onion
Come out of the madhushala and everyone shouts:
"Kill the Jews: You will save Russia
Cutie gets mad with my mom.
Another man takes me out. I pray in vain
Prayers are lost in nothing.
I'm sitting in
Anna Frank's skin is transparent
like the April bouquets.
No words needed. I feel loved
And just need each other
We'll look forward.
different from the sky and the foliage.
We can only catch each other
in this room in the dark
I want to kiss you another time, come closer.
Here they come. Nothing scared: rumoured
It is spring that is announced
and of the broken drum on the ice.
and sounds grass around Babi Yaar
which has gone wild since then.
Trees are judging us. All shouts
But the scream is done in silence.
Searching for myself I notice my hair.
It has also fallen asleep. I scream too
for thousands of innocent dead
massaged here. in every elderly person
And in every child they killed me.
Russian people, my people: I know you.
You don't hate races or nations.
Vile hands tried to defame you
by usurpar by calling your name and
"Union of Russian people". ** I don't forgive.
Let International fill the air
When the last
Antisemitic Yazga Underground.
I'm not a Jew. As if,
They all hate me
because of your hatred
I am a true Russian and will stay.
